This article appeas in a collective book on private sector participation in water and sanitation services in developing countries published by research department of the Agence Française de Développement (AFD). It evaluates the Senegale experience of an affermage contract through a specific lense, to evaluate how a typical French contract has been tailored to fit into the legal and cultural make-up of the country. The article concludes that for the first 15 years of the contract, the "graft" appears to have been successful, although the imminent future appears more uncertain. Other articles in the book have been contributed by eminent specialists in the field and review PSP experiences in countries as diverse as Niger, Colombia, China or Lebanon.
