Financing water and sanitation services: Insights from The Water Dialogues
April 2009
This paper was commissioned by The Water Dialogues, a series of national multistakeholder dialogues and research processes focusing on examining whether and how the private sector can contribute to the delivery of affordable and sustainable water supply and sanitation services, especially to poor communities. The paper reviews the extent to which multi-stakeholder dialogues can contribute to the debate on financing of water and sanitation services at national level. It identified two main ways in which they can contribute: by bringing clarity on financing challenges at national and local levels and by contributing to ongoing and often contentious debates on tariff reforms.
