links
Below are links to organisations with whom I have collaborated on a regular basis or which provide interesting resources in areas of infrastructure development and private sector participation.
Rapid Response Unit website
- this website, managed by the World Bank, contains a wealth of resources on issues of private sector participation in infrastructure, regulation or investment climate. For example, it hosts the World Bank PPI database and contains excellent reading material and regular hot topic discussions based on recent papers and publications. Examples of collaboration have included the preparation of a Reading list on privatising water services or the Review of World Bank privatisation toolkits.
BPD (Building Partners for Development)
- this organisation has been working for the past five years on analysing the dynamics of tri-sector partnerships between public and private sectors and civil society for the provision of pro-poor water services. Having spent three years learning from eight pilot projects, they are now sharing their experience and assisting the forming of partnerships wherever possible. Part of this initial analysis focused on the link between regulation and tri-sector partnerships (see link to http://www.bpd-waterandsanitation.org/english/docs/regulation1.pdf) and further practical investigation of those issues working with regulators is planned in the coming months.
European Union Water Initiative
- the European Union Water Initiative was launched by the European Union in 2002 to define a common strategy for meeting the Millenium Development Goals for water by 2015, place water at the centre of European Union members' development agenda, coordinate aid flows to the sector and improve the leveraging of private funds through Official Development Assistance. The EUWI developed a finance strategy with ERM's assistance (see: http://www.euwi.net/file_upload/Flo_tmpphpSuDj2z.pdf ). In addition, the EU Water Facility for ACP countries will provide additional funding to meet those goals in ACP countries (see: http://europa.eu.int/comm/europeaid/projects/water/index_en.htm)
