Is mass water transportation a sensible solution in the UK?
In "You and Yours" a BBC- Radio 4 consumer affairs programme broadcast on 9th June, Sophie reflected on the international experience of inter-basin water transfers to shed light on the issue in the UK. In the context of looming water scarcity and climate change, Scotland has offered to sell water to dry parts of the UK. Is that feasible? Is that done elsewhere? Yes it could be done, but it is not as simple as that. The best strategy is to consider all potential areas for water savings and efficiency before considering what are likely to be expensive schemes to build and to run, especially when environmental and other social costs are fully considered.
